The latest Photoshop scandal involves not an emaciated model nor a bizarrely-retouched actress on the cover of a fashion magazine, but instead a 60-year-old icon with not enough crows' feet for anyone's liking. Let's catch you up: Last summer, beauty company Olay debuted its Definity eye cream campaign depicting model Twiggy looking far younger, smoother, and firmer than her then 59 years should suggest. The '60s fashion star appeared virtually wrinkle-free in the ads and, since her baby-faced visage was selling anti-aging cream to older women, quite a few people—including bloggers, news outlets, and the British Parliament—grew quite disturbed. In August, British lawmakers called for a ban on the digitally altered ads, suggesting they mislead the public. And, in the ensuing months, the U.K's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received hundreds of complaints from the public, claiming the Olay images were "socially irresponsible" and could have a "negative impact on people's perceptions of their own body image, " The Guardian reports. Finally, yesterday, the ASA banned the complete set of Olay Twiggy ads, ruling that the post-production retouching could give consumers a "misleading impression of the effect the product could achieve." You think? In the ads, Twiggy says, "Olay is my secret to brighter-looking eyes" and "Because younger-looking eyes never go out of fashion...[it] reduces the look of wrinkles and dark circles for brighter, younger-looking eyes." However, since Olay admits to "minor retouching" around Twiggy's eyelid area (essentially wiping out any indication of undereye darkness, bags, and fine lines), we know the cream is not really her secret. Instead it's a skilled computer technician, which is something you just can't bottle and sell for $23.89. Nor is this "secret" available to most women. Photographer cleaning out 2009 [ 12.17.09 - 1.29pm ] acparadise [ mood | frustrated ] Hey, are you one of the photographers on this list, or know of them, or have they taken photos of you? Before we had ACS, we had a cosplay photographer list to help tag photographers. But now with ACS, we're planning on phasing this old list out in favor of our ACS list. What does this mean? It's high time you encouraged your photographer friends to sign up for ACS accounts. They just need to set up the initial account so their name will remain on our drop down list of photographers. If you like having them on that list, then bug them to join. If not, you'll still be able to just write them in. Perhaps you're such a GOOD friend that you can set up the ACS account for them, transfer it over and upgrade them.... for Christmas... tee hee. Reverse tracking on photos, photographers can track which ACP/ACE cosplayers have used their photos. Snow-tastic [ 12.16.09 - 2.52am ] minhsoi Me, bobby, muze, susan, and karla went up to mt baldy area to catch some snow right after the heavy rain. I thought it would be a good chance to test out my new 7D camera, new 24-70mm Lens, and new Computer to process these. Download Tuesday [ 12.15.09 - 11.17pm ] super_no_1 [ mood | busy ] [ music | "Gives You Hell" - All-American Rejects ] Alright. More exciting stuff on this download day. Four new songs this week, which brings the total number of songs available to 352. First song is "Gives You Hell" by All-American Rejects. This was a very popular song this year. It got a lot of air play and still does. If you listen to the radio at all, you've probably heard it. I thought it would be fun. It's a level 2 drum song so it was no problem on expert level. I was never in any danger of failing. It's a fun little song and I had a lot of fun with it. I like having songs of all skill levels as long as they're fun. The next three songs are what make up Green Day Pack 02. I really like Green Day and I'm pretty excited about the announcement of Green Day Rock Band, which is going to come out next year. It will be interesting to see what songs make it on that game. Songs that need to be censored to bits probably won't be too much fun. As it stands, we now have 6 Green Day songs, which are all from the 21st Century Breakdown album. I'll take it. First song is "Last of the American Girls". This is a fairly easy song. Easiest song of the week if you like drums. I think it's a level 1 song. It's not a particularly interesting song but it was fun to play. It's gonna be one of those warmup songs. It's not too complicated. There's no real danger of failing depending on your experience level. Next song is "Christian's Inferno". The difficulty level gets taken up quite a bit here. Level 3 drum song here. Level 3 is pretty much my borderline as far as playing on expert level goes. I can't seem to pass anything above level 3. On expert level, I passed it on the first try. It's a not a very tough rhythm, but throughout the song, it's all quick double taps on the kick pedal and that will wear you out. At the end of this song, my ankle felt like it was going to explode and it felt like I had a bad case of shin splints. I was in the red for most of the song and struggled to keep from failing completely, but I hung in there and got through it. It's one of those songs that's only hard because it's an endurance test. I wonder what vocals are like on this. That will be for another day. Last song for the week is "¡Viva La Gloria!" This video is only the audio. It's not very interesting to look at, but this song has not been released as a single. There are some live clips available, but they sound like junk. This is actually one of my favorite songs from 21st Century Breakdown. I've always loved the sound of this song. It's the most difficult song for the week. It's a level 4 drum song so after a few tries on expert level, I kept failing at about 55%. Hard level isn't much of of a problem. It's a fun song on vocals as well. In all, I was very surprised with Green Day Pack 02. The pack has some interesting variety. I would definitely like to have some older Green Day songs, but I guess we'll just have to wait for the Green Day edition for that. The Rubber Soul album was also made available for the Beatles RB today. I'll definitely get a few songs from that later on. I didn't get it tonight because I knew I would have time to play them. Maybe on the weekend, I'll get around to it. There are definitely some good tracks available there. Post Comment
